Jaw Pain, Clicking, or Clenching? It Might Be More Than You Think!
Hi everyone! Let’s talk jaws—and no, not the movie.
If you’ve been dealing with clicking, clenching, grinding, or pain in your jaw, you’re definitely not alone. Many people experience jaw issues without realizing how closely connected the jaw is to the upper neck and posture.
Your Jaw and Neck: A Surprising Connection
Here’s the deal: your jaw doesn’t work in isolation. Its movement and comfort are influenced by your cervical spine (upper neck) and even your posture, especially if you’re spending long hours hunched forward at a desk or screen. Tension in the front of the neck can create a cascade of issues that affects how your jaw moves and feels.
Try This At-Home Jaw Test:
Open your mouth and see if you can fit three fingers vertically between your teeth. That’s a quick check to see if you have full range of motion. If not, there might be some restriction worth investigating.
Also, your jaw should move symmetrically, with both sides working in perfect harmony. Inside the jaw joint is a little disc that rolls and slides to allow for smooth, wide opening. When things go out of balance, that’s when clicking, locking, or discomfort can kick in.
